Featuring: Mindgames: A Hardcore Station Story
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jul 03, 2018 at 12:13:51 AM

Last week, we talked a bit about Black Book: The Art of Jim Starlin and how it will include over 100 pages of art collected over Jim’s legendary career.

Today, we’d like to feature another epic piece in the Jim Starlin Collection - the oversize hardcover edition of Jim Starlin's illustrated prose novella Mindgames: A Hardcore Station Story.

In Mindgames, telepath Dr. Zareb Alter is in reality a former member of a notorious interstellar crime organization. Alter is pulled back into his dirty family business as he tries to solve a murder on Hardcore Station. Along the way, he must contend with a genetically-altered collection of power-enhanced psychopaths, as well as deviants of all kinds, if he intends to reach the heart of the mystery.

Starlin's expansive, lavish artwork for Mindgames will be reproduced in gray tones, as the acclaimed illustrator originally intended. The result is a graphic and narrative tour de force from a master storyteller.

Described by the creator himself as "Starlin-brand sci-fi and weirdness" and checking in at more than 100 pages, this is the only hardcover publication of this story. Mindgames is the beginning of a four-part Hardcore Station story cycle . Mindgames is available now in digital format for a pledge of $20 or collected as an oversize hardcover edition with Black Book: The Art of Jim Starlin for $75.

So far we’ve released art for the Jim Starlin Legacy Project by Bart Sears, Andy Smith, Phil Hester, Graham Nolan, Darryl Banks, Jeff Johnson, and Paul Harding

We’ll be posting more original art next week, so we wanted to tease some of the artists coming up.

We’re pleased to announce that artists Rick Leonardi, Ron Lim, Tom Raney, Marc Laming, and Sandy Jarrell will be contributing original pieces, and we’ll start unveiling them next week.

While the team works diligently, there are still a few original pieces up for grabs including OMAC by Phil Hester and Bruce McCorkindale, Thanos vs. Captain Marvel by Graham Nolan, Thanos vs. Mongul by Darryl Banks, Adam Warlock by Jeff Johnson, and the Joker by Paul Harding, inspired by Jim Starlin’s landmark Batman storyline “Death in the Family,” one of the first Batman comics Paul picked up as an impressionable 13-year-old.

Gone! All copies of the Jim Starlin Art Portfolio have been snapped up by our awesome backers! Thank you for being so cosmically generous with your support! It’s our second reward tier to sell out completely; the Infinity Autograph tier, featuring a copy of Infinity Gauntlet #1 signed by Jim Starlin, is also gone, baby, gone!

We’re excited to reveal the final piece of the portfolio. This rare gem is one of Jim Starlin’s earliest known illustrations of the Mad Titan Thanos. This early work helped birth the evolution of Marvel’s entire cosmic landscape, and has inspired countless comic creators, fans, and obviously played a huge part in the blockbuster films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jim’s work has been a gift to the industry and the world at large, and now it’s our gift to you.
