The Jim Starlin Legacy Project
almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 19, 2018 at 11:28:19 PM

As part of the Jim Starlin Collection campaign, Ominous Press is excited to announce the Jim Starlin Legacy Project, featuring original art rewards from a host of the acclaimed comic artists to celebrate Jim's storied career.

An accident last year injured Jim's drawing hand, leading him to devote himself to writing full time. So in order to make original art a part of this campaign, we have enlisted a slate of Jim's collaborators and admirers to execute pieces featuring Jim's creations and most well-known characters.

We'll be offering one original per day as a reward tier, from creators like Phil Hester, Tom Raney, Rick Leonardi, Graham Nolan, Andy Smith, Darryl Banks, Paul Harding, and many more.

Today's release is this incredible Dreadstar original by penciled and inked by Bart Sears. Measuring 11 inches by 17 inches, the original can be had for a pledge of $750 or more. The reward also includes hardcover copies of Black Book: The Art of Jim Starlin and the illustrated novella Mindgames.

All of these art pieces are one-of-a-kind originals, so when they're gone, they're gone. Check back each day for a new offering!

almost 6 years ago – Tue, Jun 19, 2018 at 12:22:45 AM

Since you’ve all be so enthusiastic, we’re going to make this a day of reveals!

The third piece of legendary artwork in the Jim Starlin Art Portfolio tier features cosmic villain Mongul with the one-and-only Superman ready to do battle. Jim Starlin created Mongul, and he’s become a mainstay in the DC universe, including his role in the classic Superman tale “For the Man Who Has Everything” by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. This is Mongul as envisioned by his creator, a massive monster ready to pound the Man of Steel, in a piece that has never been published before. The Jim Starlin Art Portfolio tier is available for $95 ,and thus far includes loads of cosmic goodness featuring Dreadstar, Thanos, and Captain Marvel. All portfolio pieces measure 9 inches by 12 inches.

almost 6 years ago – Mon, Jun 18, 2018 at 04:41:53 PM

Thanks to your love and support of this project, we made it to the first stretch goal in a hurry! Everyone who pledged for a physical reward will receive a copy of the Ominous Press comic LEGENDARY #4, featuring a wraparound cover by Jim Starlin! This cover is one of the last pieces of art Jim Starlin produced prior to injuring his drawing hand.

If $30,000 was the stretch goal of lasts, let’s make $35,000 the one of firsts. We’re happy to announce that after reaching $35,000, everyone who pledged for a physical reward will receive a print of Jim Starlin’s first ever illustration of Thanos! This is your chance to own a rare piece of The Mad Titan’s history!

Thanks to your support, the Jim Starlin Collection has reached its initial funding goal. We can’t thank you enough!

Now that we've crossed the funding barrier, we can turn our attention to stretch goals, and we have plenty of them in store! When we cross the $30,000 threshold, everyone who pledged for a physical reward will receive a copy of the Ominous Press comic LEGENDARY #4, featuring a wraparound cover by Jim Starlin! Showcasing the Ominous hero Pheros battling a bevy of opponents, the grand image is one the last pieces of art Jim Starlin produced prior to injuring his drawing hand. With the interior story and art crafted by Bart Sears, Ron Marz, and Tom Raney, the issue is something special.

More stretch goals and announcements of more rewards -- including some rare original art pieces -- are just around the corner!

Please share what's coming via social media. The more momentum we generate, the more goals we surpass, and the more rewards for everyone! On behalf of Jim Starlin and everyone at Ominous Press, thanks again for your pledges, your sharing, and your love of the craft!
